Yes, ladies, it's that sexy time of year again - love is in the air.

Everywhere you look is some savvy advertiser suggesting what to get your sweetheart, but it can be tough to sift through the slick ads to find what to really get your baby this February 14th.

As your man scrambles to come up with the perfect gift to make you smile on Valentine's Day, you wait in eager anticipation of a day that - let's be completely honest here - is strictly for the ladies. But you know he's going all out, so what can you get him? How about rewarding his preparations by taking care of the reservations on V-day?

If waiting an hour to get seated in a crowded, noisy restaurant only to be overcharged for mediocre tasting, fat-laden food doesn't sound like the way you want to spend your Valentine's Day, then try this excellent, easy recipe that will stimulate the senses and stir your appetite for love.

Not only will he appreciate the money saved, but the food will be healthy and delicious, as well as served by his favorite beauty in an intimate setting only steps away from your final destination - the bedroom. Or, invite him into the kitchen and get cooking together (wink, wink).

Even if you're going solo for this day of love, you can whip up this simple recipe and treat yourself to something special. You deserve it!

Artichoke Hearts Salad, Beef Tenderloin with Dried Cherry-Wine Sauce and Sparkling Wine Poached Pear

Artichoke Hearts Salad

Ingredients:
1 1/3 cup artichoke hearts
2 oz. roasted red peppers
2 Tbsp. salad dressing, low-fat or nonfat

Directions:
Dice red peppers and toss with artichokes and dressing. Serve.

Beef Tenderloin with Dried Cherry-Wine Pan Sauce

Ingredients:
4 oz. red wine
4 tbsp. dried cherries
1 Tbsp. jam
1/2 tsp. Dijon mustard
1 tsp. canola oil
6 oz. beef, loin cut
1/2 tsp. cornstarch
3 Tbsp. water
1 1/2 tsp. unsalted butter

Directions:
Combine wine, dried cherries, jam and Dijon mustard in small bowl; set aside. Heat oil in a nonstick skillet over low heat for 2 minutes. Cut the tenderloin into slices; sprinkle with pepper if desired.

Increase heat to medium and place tenderloin in pan; cook about 3-4 minutes each side or until starting to brown. Remove tenderloin from pan; set aside keeping warm. Stir in wine mixture to same pan, scraping the pan to loosen browned bits. Increase to high heat; bring sauce to a boil and cook until reduced about half. Dissolve cornstarch in water.

Turn heat down to medium and whisk cornstarch into sauce until smooth; cook an additional minute. Remove from heat and stir in butter with whisk. Pour sauce over tenderloin to serve.

Note: We recommend a port wine or other sweet red wine. Raspberry or cherry jam will work well for this recipe, but you can also use strawberry.

Sparkling Wine Poached Pear

Ingredients:
2 small pears
5 Tbsp. sparkling wine
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves

Directions:
Peel and core pears. Cut a thin slice from the bottom of each pear to form a base for the pear to stand on. Place the pears upright in a heavy saucepan or Dutch oven. Pour the sparkling wine and juice over the pears. Sprinkle on cinnamon and cloves to taste (recommend starting with 1/8 tsp. of cinnamon and a dash of cloves). Bring mixture to a boil; reduce heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes or until pears are tender. Serve warm.

Study finds inactivity almost as bad as smoking

When it comes to exercise, we need to flip the switch about how we think about it. Instead of talking about the benefits of exercising, it's even more

Whether you do advanced exercises, such as this renegade row with a kettle bell performed by At Home Fitness blogger Aaron Dorksen, or just briskly walk or work in the yard, it can help your health immensely. A new study reported in The Lancet says that inactivity is almost as bad for people as smoking.

When it comes to exercise, we need to flip the switch about how we think about it. Instead of talking about the benefits of exercising, it's even more important that we stress the dangers of inactivity.
That's according to The Lancet medical journal, which reported recently that urgent action is needed to tackle what it calls "the pandemic of inactivity".
A new study reported in the Lancet estimates that about a third of adults do not get enough physical activity.
And here's the kicker - the death toll from inactivity is only slightly lower than that for smoking.
A team of 33 researches from health centers around the world found that lack of activity is causing nearly a tenth of premature deaths worldwide, or 5.3 million deaths a year.
Not surprisingly, the Lancet study found people in higher income countries were the least active.
It's recommended that adults do 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week, such as brisk walking, cycling or gardening. To step up the aerobic exercise, work out on a treadmill, elliptical machines, exercise bike, etc.
Inactivity dramatically increases the risk for heart disease, breast and bowel cancer, diabetes and more diseases.
Everyone should get at least 2 1-2 hours of moderate aerobic exercise a week. Before people think no way do I have time or I can't do that they should realize that moderate exercise can include walking, gardening or even brisk housework.
The key is just do something beside sit around. And do it for a minimum of 2 1-2 hours a week. Additional exercise can help you more.
According to The Lancet study, though, only about a third of adults worldwide meet that exercise minimum and a fifth of people say they work up a sweat only once a month.
Lead researcher Dr I-Min Lee, from Harvard Medical School, said: Am I surprised that it's comparable to smoking, no. Only about one quarter of the world's population smoke, but about two thirds are inactive.
Dr. Lin said he hopes that one day soon people who don't exercise will be looked on in a similar manner as those who smoke. Becasue people in both groups are making very poor health choices.

Question :

How do I beat depression?

I am a 22 year old female, and I have been suffering from depression since I was in middle school- maybe even before that. I am not sure, because I have suffered from this for so long that I m not sure how depression-free people feel, but it seems that my illness is rather severe. I have a strong family history of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, anorexia, and bulimia (depression and anxiety coming from both sides of the family). I have always had trouble relating to other people and letting others in, as well as struggled with pretty severe anxiety. I was recently diagnosed with ADD, and the medication has helped a lot, but I still feel that I am struggling much more than I am succeeding. I am also on setraline and lamotragine (sp?), but I have not noticed a marked difference with these.
Everyday, it is difficult to get out of bed, and trying to force myself to go to classes, study, and even socialize with people is a struggle. Insomnia is a huge problem for me- I can go days with only a couple hours of sleep a night (without naps), but I as soon as I go to bed, I start feeling incredibly anxious. I almost always feel sad, and a lot of this is probably due to the problems that I am now dealing with as a result of my constant inactivity when I was in university. I have graduated with very mediocre grades, and I want to attend occupational therapy school, but at the same time, I can t really muster feelings of passion or excitement for this vocation. I also really have to force myself to spend time with anyone who is not my family- most of the time I want to be alone, but then I also go through periods of feeling very lonely due to my lack of social life. I have never seriously considered suicide, but only because I know that it would hurt my family so much. It s so hard to try and keep going because all of my problems are my own fault, and I am trying to change my habits (trying to not lay in bed so much, go out more, have a regular schedule, be more disciplined, etc), but I have such a hard time in sticking with my new behaviors. I have been exercising regularly and have found that this helps a lot, and I am trying to form a habit of meditating and doing yoga everyday, but these changes aren t enough. My life is a mess, and my family is so disappointed in me and worried at the same time, and they don t deserve to feel like that. I am so disorganized, and I just feel like I am drowning in my own inadequacies- I have so many faults that trying to correct them is overwhelming, and meanwhile I keep making more and more of a mess of my life. I am so behind other people of my age, and I feel like my family is sick of giving me chances.
By far, the things that I have made the biggest differences for me are my ADD medication and exercise. I would like to increase my ADD meds, but I lost a lot of weight when I first started on it and am a little too thin- and I struggle to maintain my weight where it is right now.
At this point I am just struggling to maintain my head above water emotionally, and I feel so out of control of my emotions that I am constantly afraid of backsliding and getting worse and don t have much hope of improvement. I realize that people who don t suffer from depression go through ups and downs too, but I feel that I am too sad and anxious too often. While I feel that my life is not really going anywhere right now, I still think that I am blessed in many other ways- I have a very supportive family, schooling comes easily to me, and my family is very secure financially and willing to help me. Still, at this point I should be starting to be more independent, and I am not really close to that point, and this fact really gets me down. While I fully intend to stick to my routine of working hard, exercising, and meditating, I have gone through so many phases of deciding to change something about my life and then not sticking to it, and I almost expect myself to fail.
At this point, I hope that the force of my desperation will give me stronger willpower, but I was hoping that someone could give me suggestions of things that they have found helpful in staying positive and improving. I realize that I will probably never completely overcome my depression, but I hope that I eventually find more useful coping mechanisms. I realize this is ridiculously long- I just wanted to be thorough in explaining my symptoms and what I have tried so far.
Thank you so much for your help!

JENNIFER LOPEZDEN FITNESS TAVSYES; ZUMBA! - Zumba Turk

After a few pregnancies, body fat around the hips and stomach is very natural to have. However, it is not hard to lose that weight as Jennifer Lopez managed to do. It is said that Jennifer Lopez ( "Jenny from the Block") gained 25 kilos from her pregnancy with twins, but is looking more fabulous than ever. So, how do the celebrities lose those extra pounds afterwards?

To get rid of excess pounds Jennifer Lopez trained several hours per day. After her photo shoot for "ELLE" magazine, and her dress not fitting with additional material and safety pins (therefore having to be enlarged), the 39-year-old deliberately said: "I'll have to do something."

She started with a fitness program: every day about two hours of swimming, to get into shape. You can lose about twice the amount of calories swimming than running, so this seemed ideal. In addition to jogging and cycling to increase stamina, weekly Pilates classes were a must. Staff trainer Gunnar Peterson combined stretching, strength and breathing exercises to train weaker muscle groups.

To make the tough training suffice, Jennifer Lopez (J. Lo) kept to a strictly balanced diet. For breakfast Jennifer Lopez ate mostly fresh fruit with yogurt or muesli with dried fruit (stimulating the intestines and stomach, leading to a higher fat burning lead). She made sure to keep the black bread with ham, and Nutella rolls out of sight. Lots of fresh vegetables and healthy foods filled Lopez's lunch and dinner table. Jennifer Lopez now does more than five months of their hard fitness program to keep off the baby's abdominal fat.

The favorite routes run by J. Lo are the beach and the waterfront promenade. Sand is particularly effective in the shortest possible time, since it is very difficult to run in. Another plus point for jogging on the beach is the great panorama that J. Lo often enjoys during her mornings.

Being a full time mom, with a husband constantly away on tour and trying to keep hold of her career as well, Jennifer Lopez has done well to get rid of the excess pounds. Now, four 20-30 seconds per unit spent in the gym, every Tuesday and Thursday. This is her training plan for the next few months, because soon, the new mother will be back on stage and singing live. She is after all a role model for many women and a sex symbol for millions of men.

Do you want to eat healthy and add some color back in to your life? You're in luck! Chemical researchers have linked healthy eating to a colorful diet. Dr. Ronald Prior, a PhD research chemist with the USDA explains, Every hue - green, yellow, orange, red, purple, and even white - signifies a different class of nutrients, each of which offers a unique benefit." Dr. Prior's research follows the trail of antioxidants found in various foods and the health benefits attributed to such healthy components.

It turns out that we can break it down for you like the hues of a rainbow. Yellow/Orange: Sweet potatoes, carrots, mango and corn, which contain carotenoids which help reduce the risk of cancer. Green: Spinach and broccoli contain lutein which promotes sharper, better vision. Blue/Purple: Blueberries and blackberries contain anthocyanins which prevent and suppress tumor growth. Red: Tomatoes and watermelon contain lycopene which helps prevent heart disease and cancer. White: Cauliflower and potatoes are a good source of vitamin C.

Research indicates that mixing these foods together helps to boost their overall antioxidant effects. So, the key to a youthful, healthy exterior, sharp mind, healthy strong bones and disease prevention might start with a healthy rainbow of colorful foods on your plate.

updated 6:34 p.m. CT, Fri., Feb. 8, 2008
WASHINGTON - The influenza vaccine given to Americans may not protect as well as expected, U.S. health officials said on Friday as the number of flu cases increased nationwide.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said slightly more than half of the influenza virus strains reported to its surveillance system are not good matches against the strains included in this flu seasons vaccine.

The number of states reporting widespread flu activity jumped to 31 this week compared with 11 a week ago, the CDC said. But Dr. Joe Bresee of the CDCs influenza division said there are no indications this flu season is worse than usual.

Story continues below
--------------------------------------
advertisement

--------------------------------------

Seasonal flu activity was slow to start this year but has increased sharply in recent weeks, Bresee told reporters.

One measure officials use to gauge the severity of the season is the number of flu-related child deaths. Bresee said the CDC has heard of six U.S. children who have died from the flu, a relatively low number compared with recent years.

Flu viruses mutate and change all the time, so every year a different vaccine is created as officials predict which particular strains will circulate.

The vaccine is designed to protect against three influenza strains two from Type A, an H1N1 and an H3N2 version, and one for Type B.

Bresee said about 30 percent of the overall strains of influenza in the United States may be a Type A strain that emerged in Australia called H3N2 A/Brisbane. It emerged too late to be included in the flu vaccine offered in the United States beginning in September and October.

The Type B strain chosen for this years vaccine also was not a good match for most of the B virus strains seen in the United States this flu season, Bresee said.

While a less-than-ideal virus match between the viruses in the vaccine and those circulating viruses can reduce vaccine effectiveness, we know from past influenza studies that the vaccine can still protect enough to make illness milder or prevent flu-related complications, Bresee said.

Bresee noted that decisions on the composition of the annual vaccine are made about nine months before it is made available to the public in the fall, and it is sometimes hard to know that far in advance which strains will circulate.

Flu vaccines take months to make.

Bresee also said some resistance is being reported to the antiviral drug Tamiflu, made by Switzerlands Roche Holding AG and Gilead Sciences Inc of the United States. Of the viruses tested in CDC flu labs, 4.5 percent are resistant to the drug, Bresee said.

Influenza kills an estimated 36,000 Americans in an average year, and puts 200,000 into the hospital, the CDC said.

Question :

Weight loss slowing and other fitness problems.?

I am a female about 30 ish. I have been doing a fitness boot camp for the last three weeks and watching my diet. Boot camp is 4-5 days a week for an hour. The first two weeks I dropped ten pounds but have lost only 1 in the last week. I still have 20-25lbs left to lose. It seems I have slowed a bit and started running on a treadmill this week in the evenings for about 20 min with a 15 min speed walk. I think I may have cut my daily calories to much last week sometimes forgetting to eat. Anyhow, I would like to lose at least 3 lbs a week. I would like some suggestions for stepping up the weight loss and eating correctly. I think the key is in my diet. I cut calories but the quality of the food is not very impressive. The goal is to balance between weight loss and energy. I would like a long term change for better health with steady results losing weight. Also, I am losing weight everywhere but my stomach, which is where I need to lose it the most. My stomach is hard and muscular with the fat either underneath or in between the muscle and some fat on my back. The rest of my body is very muscular with little to no fat but I am a bit bulky from lifting and sports in the past. I would to slim it down a bit but the main problem is bulky stomach. I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.
Answer :
1-2 lbs a week is normal. 10 lbs is alot for just 2 weeks. Keep with the program, and just accept 1-2 lbs a week.

eat more fruits and veggies, eat smaller portions, eat 4-6 small meals.

Exercise can be done anywhere, anyhow. Take a brisk walk. Learn to jog. Jump rope, jumping jacks, take up rollarblading, a sport, get a bike and start riding it. 1 hour every day. And take PE seriously.

Fitness Annoying Problems in Gyms

1.) Functional Equipment Being Used for Bodybuilding ExercisesI guess this is more or less a pet peeve, or it can be viewed as a lack of variation in exercise selection. How many times have you walked around your fitness center and marveled at all the new functional equipment that it had? I classify functional equipment as any cable apparatus that has moveable arms, pulleys, or is multi-vector (most notably Free Motion, Paramount, Keiser, and some Precor, Life Fitness and other reputable equipment manufacturers). So, the most annoying thing to see in the gym with this arsenal of movement improving equipment is some guy performing your typical cable crossovers or double biceps curls. We have all seen him (or her). The selection of functional exercises that can be performed due to the mobility and angles at which each pulley can be placed is numerous. But why perform your typical sagittal plane crossovers? Are the cable towers occupied? Is your chest workout incomplete without the crossover exercise? Is this the idea of variation from saythe peck deck machine? Obviously, there is lack of knowledge of the usage of these pieces. Although, crossovers and double-bi curls can be performed on them, why choose to do it on a machine that is designed for multi-planar functionality? Learn more exercises!

2.) Too-Wide-of-a-Grip Lat Pull-DownsUnless you are 62 and above, there is no reason to go wide on your lat pull down grip. The old fallacy of go widerget a wider back; or go narrowget a thicker back are exactly that: old bodybuilding fallacy. According to the NASM, using a wider grip actually brings in more scapular movement and involvement (which it is involved during the movement) but the majority of work comes from abduction of the scapula and rhomboids---not the lats. The lats are what you want to work together with strong scapular retraction and depression. Also, going too wide of a grip also tends the lifter to constantly elevate the shoulder blades with each rep. The proper way to perform the lat pull down is with shoulder blades depressed down and kept in that position throughout the set. We tend to raise our shoulder blades and thoracic spine because these muscles are eccentrically weak. Thus, we should focus on strengthening the scapular retractors/protractors and stabilizers to perform a perfect lat pull down.

3.) Medicine Balls Used for CrunchesI dont know if this one is meVern Gambetta popularized a lot of medicine ball movements in the mid-1990s including wood-chops, oblique twists, and lunge twists. Medicine balls have become so popular that they are also manufactured with handles! In my opinion, and hopefully other strength coaches, weighted medicine balls should be used primarily for power movements --aka: throwing against a concrete wall to maximize power output of a specific movement: chest pass (soccer throw); oblique transverse passes (tennis racquet), vertical leaps (basketball dunk), and many more).
I have a problem with this vital tool being used by many gym-goers across the US as a way to load the ab crunch. We have all seen them.guy or girl gets on the bench or ball and holds the med ball overhead with straight arms and crunches. Is a dumbbell not suffice for this movement? Did you know we used to use dumbbells for stuff like this before med balls were ever in gyms? The only thing is we couldnt throw dumbbells or we got thrown out of the gym! Medicine balls are designed to be thrownto take a beatingwitnessed by the material they are made up! Use them for what they should primarily be used for: Power!

4.) Boyfriends Teaching Their Girlfriends How To LiftI am guilty of this, but I hopefully know what I am talking about. Every week, I spot half a dozen couples working out together and they are made up of big buff guys teaching their pilates-addicted girlfriends how they workout. So what is wrong with this? Many guys who are in between the ages of 25-45 have grown up with watching the likes of Arnold, Dorian, Lee, and Ronnie (pro-bodybuilders). So if you are like me, you grew up wanting to be big, strong, and cut. Well, if you subscribed to all the magazines like I did, you learned a lot of the sagittal plane exercises from the bodybuilding sample routines. So flash-forward to the present day: boyfriends teach their girlfriends the bench press, lat pull-down, bent-over row, lateral raises, squat, leg press, curls, kickbacks, and many more. So girlfriends begin training like men who train like bodybuilders. What is wrong with that? Nothingbut if you know conventional bodybuilding routines youll know that they contain a lot of sagittal presses and most bodybuilders have the resulted syndromes of such training: upper and lower-cross syndrome & protracted shoulders. So why are you going to mess up your girlfriends body? The solution ladies? Seek out a qualified fitness professional to show you how to perform an abundance of multi-planar exercises including bodyweight, bands, balls, and core work. Dont pass up the free session that you get upon joining a gym. It is your opportunity to ask questions and be instructed on the proper way to perform a variety of exercises. Back in the day, when a woman said I dont wanna look like one of those bodybuilding people, now I know what they meant.

5.) TVs in front of Cardio EquipmentI can write an entire article on this and I probably will. Managing a YMCA fitness center for the last 2 years, I have found the reason why people are not losing fat. They are coming into the gym to watch TV and workout. Did you hear what I said? They are coming in to watch TV and workout. You and I go to the gym to workout and maybe, if Rescue Me is on... watch TV. Todays general population clientele (GPC) has misunderstood what exercise is thanks to the ACSM. People pick the cross trainer or treadmill in front of a TV, plug in their headphones, put on their favorite show and walk at a 2.5 pace. After a half hour, they have not even broken a sweat and their cardio session is complete. They feel content because, according to present-day guidelines, they just achieved an important factor in their longevity and got to watch the latest episode of 24. Their real intent is to pay attention to the show on TV and walk. To pay attention to the show, they need to walk at a reasonable pace that will not cause them focus on maintaining balance, endurance, and effort. The very things needed to generate power output to expend the most calories in the least amount of time, thus losing fat! I am not saying this is the majority of gym-goers, but it is what I witness 80% of the time. It is to no surprise that many of the people I witnessed still look the same year after year. Fitness centers need to get rid of all these TVs and cardio theater systems in front of cardio equipment and focus more on member goal attainment and not dollar signs. More to come on this subject

Commonly question about Fitness Annoying Problems in Gyms

Question :

Ggggrrr annoying gym people and the health and fitness industry...?

So its Spring here and the conversation at work always veers to gym-talk. What gym do u go to, how many times a wk do u go, bla bla bla. Ppl look at u weird if u say u dont go to the gym.

Im not jealous or anything, im slim and i get exercise without paying for some ridiculously expensive gym where Im stuck with other sweaty ppl.

Why is it so fascinating to hear about other people s gym habits?

Why is it OK for people to point out if you are unhealthy when you dont go to the gym? Whats their problem?

When did it become OK for ppl to know what I do to become fit?

Does anyone else think that the health and fitness industry is ripping people off by their high membership prices?

Answer :
Yes the Gym is a rip off.

You could just go for a walk or something. Iwent clubbing on friday and danced for 4 hours non stop that has to be a more fun way of getting excersise.

Ill stick with wine, fun and no gyms thank you
Question :

Any help with these fitness problems?

im 13 and i have little problem with stuff

i have a huge appetite, and im trying to eat healthier snacks, but the only things i eat now are like "low in sodium" or "reduced fat", would you say this is okay?

im not really concerned about losing weight, but from bottom of my abs to the beginning of my pelvis i have this hill sort of thing that s annoying me and makes me think i look im the early stages in pregnancy any way to get rid of that or make it smaller with no push ups. i have gym once a week with a harsh/good teacher and i figure skate 3 times a week for an hour to an hour and a half
Answer :
Stay away from the "low sodium" and "reduced fat" snacks all together and your stomach will start to thank you in due time.

Food manufacturers are very smart and know that they still want to sell their product, even to the health conscious ones. When they reduce fat, they do mean it. But to make it taste good, they ll usually increase the carbs and or sugar to makeup for it. That s not healthy at all. Take a look at gummy worms or red vines next time you re in the supermarket. They ll state, "fat free", which is true b/c sugar isn t a fat but everyone knows that all that sugar is very bad for you.

So what do to? stick to fresh vegetables and fruit. Also incorporate lean protein into every meal (chicken, fish, turkey, eggs). Stick to a low carb diet. If you get the majority of your carbs from vegetables and stay away from all that refined flour in addition to eating protein in every meal (chicken breast), you ll start dropping weight quick. Trust me man. It s not easy to adjust your diet but you ll be motivated once you start seeing results.

Workout wise, you need to hit the free weights. Muscle helps burn more fat at rest, so remember that. Google "compound exercises" and go from there. Hit the cardio for at least 30 min on your non lifting days.
Question :

Fitness First won t give me my money back though I have a proof they owe me it. What can I do?

My experience with Fitness First Lewisham (UK) wasn t very pleasant either. I signed in only for 3 months and at the beginning they offered me money return if I buy 2 hours with personal trainer (25 which I was supposed to get back after I go to the gym at least 7 times in the first 28 days). I was there 2-3 times a week, I signed up on their page and never saw the money back because the person who signed the contract with me either didnt know why I didnt get that money back (so she promised to check) and when I went there again she already was gone (didnt work for Fitness First any more). But ok, I thought, I liked that trainer and what he thought me was mine any way, so I let it go. Then every time I went there something wasnt working, either showers, or sauna, or sun bed, or soft drink machine etc. On top of it all the staff was really arrogant and had bad attitude towards members. Try to ask them about something when they are on the phone with a friend or sending text to someone and youll get nasty look saying What the **** do you want from me?.

I bought myself 60 min. sun bed because I was going to the weeding (abroad) and wanted to look nice and tanned. I used it once for 5 min. and the very next day they closed sun bed saying there is a construction work and I cant use it, that I can come back in two days time. I came back and they had the same story for me (cant use it). So I came back again and again same text: come back later. I got really annoyed with Fitness First and I cancelled my membership (I was already a member longer than 3 months). The same day I looked for some information on-line about the gym and I found so many negative forums about them and stories from people who cancelled their memberships and still paid the fees. I got scared, went back there the very next day and asked for a copy of my membership cancellation. I spoke to the manager (initials I.S.)), who even printed out and signed a letter for me confirming he will give me back the money for my sun bed. He seemed nice and unlike other employees of Fitness First he seemed to be willing to help. He said I had to wait one week to get the money back.

I never got the money, plus after I cancelled my direct debit with the gym (I waited a month before I did this because I wanted to be fair and gave them a month notice), they charged me again using details from my card (without my permission or knowledge) which normally you provide while signing a contract, and this is illegal (fraudulent) as the bank consultant told me. I went to the Fitness First back again and I found out there is a new manager (initials S. J.), I explained to him what happened, showed him the letter I got and the copy of cancelled membership form. He called head office and they told him that according to them Im still a member! Though at the Fitness First Lewisham computer I wasnt a member any more. So that manager convinced me that he will deal with it and he will give me a refund. I was happy, finally someone sensible, he told me to go home and I should get all the money back within 2 weeks. Guess what, nothing happened! He even lied to me saying that he has a proof that the money was sent to me and printed it out to me. A piece of form he filled in with my name and the amount of money that I should get back, which he probably filled the same day I came back with more questions about my refund. I went to the bank (which is opposite to Fitness First Lewisham) because as he told me there must be some problem with my bank statements and thats why I dont see the money FF sent back to me. I went there to check. A lady in the bank told me the guy in Fitness First lied to me and I hadnt received anything. I went back to the gym immediately. The manager told me he will take care of this and call me back at the end of the week. He never called. He never did anything. Its over 3 months now and Im still going there 1-2 times a week and every time they try to convince me they already solved it and I should wait, but recently the old manager came back and hes avoiding me.

I have a bank statement proving Fitness First used my card details to charge me and Ive signatures from both managers on letter printed out with the amount of money they owe me. And its still not enough for them (they dont consider it a proof). What should I do? Anyone knows what I can do?

BTW, don t sign contracts with them. Look for some feedback on-line before you decide to sign in with them. I made a mistake and looked for it after it was too late.
